About your Instructor

      Desiree (Fernandes) McKenzie , a Honolulu piano and voice instructor since 1980, enjoys teaching all forms of music styles for all age groups. A local graduate of Kapa’a High School on Kaua’i, she received her Music Education degree at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. Better known to students as “Ms. Desi”, she teaches in Mililani (623-2411) and also at the Mondoy Music Studio (734-2695) located at 3470 Wai'alae Avenue, Suite 3 in Ka'imuki,  (Get map/directions)  directly across from Harry's Music Store. Ms. Desi is currently accepting children, high school students and adults for quality individualized piano or voice instruction. Ms. Desi is also a well-known vocal instructor, and the founder of the “Karaoke Kids” who are best known for their amazing musicianship and philanthropy throughout Honolulu. Ever energetic and enthusiastic, among Ms. Desi's many fields of music expertise, is her Directorship of the popular “Hawaii Youth Chorus”–the contemporary children’s showchorus, which she founded in 1990. The Hawaii Youth Chorus is most renowned for being the opening act for the KHON FOX 2 Lokahi Tree Drive at Ala Moana Centerstage over the past six years.

Teaching Hours & Rates

   Piano and voice teachers arrange a lesson time for applicants on a one-on-one basis, most usually for a half-hour of coaching and instruction each week. Ms. Desi teaches in both Honolulu and Mililani, by appointment, on weekday afternoons and evenings, and also on Saturdays. A complimentary interview will be arranged to meet her in the teaching environment so that you may reach an informed decision toward obtaining piano or voice instruction for you or your children. Tuition, conveniently assessed by the month, is collected at the start of each month, and varies monthly, depending on the individual teacher's rates.
